Frequently Asked Questions
Q:What is the difference between a
Historical Society and a Historic Preservation Commission?
A: The purposes of and goals of the two types of organizations are
very similar. As the name "Commission" implies an HPC is an agent of
the city government and is funded by and is responsible to the City.
Historical societies are informal organizations are not directly
related to the city government. Many HPC's have an ordinance
that gives them more authority in some situations.
Q:How can I get my property recognized

Geneva. If you think yours deserves consideration, call Mary
